iRobot Roomba 615

The Roomba 615 from iRobot is a classic entry-level model around robotic vacuum. It has many advantages, but also disadvantages in the vacuum cleaning process. Above all, he stands for one high thoroughness and a clear system in the conduct of what surfaces between him 60 and 80 square meters optimized with a full battery charge. However, in our test it had to struggle with one or the other obstacle and does not come with a remote control. Everything that is hop and everything that is great about the robot follows in the detailed version of the test results of the iRobot Roomba 615.

Vacuums very thoroughly and has a clever system. The missing timer is therefore not quite as important.

Good performance, good system

Unlike, for example, the inexpensive MD 16192 model from MEDION, a clear system can be seen in the implementation of the Roombas. It covers the area in circles and lanes and thus vacuums very thoroughly and systematically. Right at the beginning, a great additional function must be mentioned. Because if the vacuum cleaner hits an object, it then drives around it. For example, it circles a flower pot after it has been bumped and thus sucks perfectly around objects before returning to its tried and tested system. This is thanks to the patented iAdapt 1.0 navigation.

What makes it not only the second best in the test series in the "thoroughness" category, but also makes it the test winner of the vacuum robots, is the incredibly strong suction power and thoroughness when cleaning a surface. Only the Neato records even more. Like almost all other models, the iRobot Roomba 615 uses a 30-watt motor, which has comparatively little running time from the battery, but is by far the best vacuum.

Surprising result

The Roomba picked up 113,2 grams of dust from a total of 140 grams in our test scenario. That's along with that Neato BotVac D85, which absorbs 3 grams more, absolute top in front of the other three models. Thoroughness can therefore definitely be attributed to him. At the same time, the volume is also worth mentioning for this strong performance. At 67,7 decibels it is in the upper half, but at two or three decibels more or less you can't really tell the difference with just hearing.

iRobot itself gives the Roomba 615 a specification for animal hair, although with this suction power you can be sure that this difficulty will not pose a challenge for the 615 either. As already indicated, the 30-watt suction motor naturally consumes a certain amount of energy. The pure suction time is around 60 minutes, which is more in the lower half of the tested models. Despite the strong 3000 mAh XLife battery, there is no more to get out of it. However, the suction power makes up for the running time. This result is also offset by the comparatively short charging time of "only" three hours. The loading time itself is given less weight in the rating. The loading does not have to be actively initiated by the user, which means that it is not a problem.

Unfortunately no remote control

The iRobot Roomba 615 also needed the very positive cleaning performance that has now been described in detail to win this test series. Because it's a bit disappointing that it comes without a remote control for this price. Due to the lack of compatibility with the iRobot app, no special timer functions can be carried out and the 615 cannot be integrated into the smart home either. Only the buttons on the top of the robot allow you to make the settings.

“Settings” is almost too far stretched here. What he does well in the "installation" area, he loses in terms of software. It is simply activated via the "CLEAN" button and returns to the station after the work is done, but it cannot be programmed. This is the greatest point of suffering of the Roomba 615, whose successor models allow programming.

Easy to clean

But he can trump when cleaning. The bagless 0,5 liter container can be easily washed out if necessary to remove even the smallest grains of smut from the container. Weighing around 3,5 kilos, it is easy to pick up and can be cleaned on the kitchen counter. This process takes less than five minutes and the iRobot is ready for use again.

When it comes to installation, the circle closes, because here, too, "installation" is already stretched too far. All you have to do is connect the charging station and press "CLEAN". This means that the Roomba 615 is ready to use and can convince the buyer of its strong suction power. It is suitable for carpets and smooth floors, as well as flowing. Nobody can fool the 30 watts!

The suction power tears it out!

You shouldn't be too dazzled by the suction power, that's clear. After all, at least one timing function could be built in for this price so that you don't always have to be at home for the iRobot to start. Nevertheless, one simply has to state that the Roomba 615 simply did best in the most important test area, namely vacuuming itself. In addition, there is a satisfactory score in the "Operation" area, since activation is very easy at the push of a button. However, it is also clear that the lack of programming options is significant and may dissuade one or the other interested party from the model. This is understandable, but the simple installation and cleaning, the clever implementation system and the suction power at an acceptable volume make the iRobot Roomba 615 our test winner!
