Sky Deutschland conquers the Internet

Sky Q receiver

Sky doesn't seem to have ignored the countless illegal streaming attempts in the past and is now doing it itself - stream to the internet. More specifically, in 2018, Sky Deutschland planned to your complete offer expand to Internet streaming. Sky announces a lot of innovations in Germany and we take a look at the small revolution of the big pay TV provider.

Course towards Netflix and Amazon

With the expansion of streaming to the entire offer, Sky is not necessarily turning away from the medium of TV, but, as with Sky Go and video-on-demand, is making itself significantly more independent of the original medium. It will also be a lot more relaxed for you: satellite dish or even cable connection are no longer necessary. This is also known as "over-the-top", the connection between the Internet and TV. An inevitable future development that could allow Sky Deutschland to catch up further behind "Amazon Prime" and "Netflix".

It is to be streamed via a new, in-house receiver. The so-called "Sky Q" is already available in Great Britain and, after the British launch, is also to be released in Germany together with the streaming option. The use of the receiver for streaming purposes was published at the end of January 2017 when business figures were announced.

Sky Store later this year

Sky is best known for its packages. So it can happen that a large part of the actual subscription volume is left unused - but not with the "Sky Store". Similar to the "Sky Ticket", where you can book individual events, especially in the field of sports, the "Sky Store" makes it possible to buy individual film and series experiences independently or for a limited period. The United Kingdom also saw this concept before us, actually at the beginning of 2015. It is comforting, however, that the Sky Store should also be available for us in Germany in 2 – with a 2017-year delay.

According to statista.de, Sky continues to enjoy constant growth in revenue and subscribers in Germany and Austria. If you compare the last two financial years, sales increased by 12% and 59.000 new subscribers found their way to the Sky offer.

With the forthcoming developments, Sky could once again record enormous leaps on the way to the impending 5 million user limit and not make the big streaming providers sweat too little.
