Alien shooter Prey is coming in May

Prey in-game footage

Prey is the name of the new shooter from Bethesda and Arkane Studios, which is due to hit shelves on May 5th. In a world where John F. Kennedy still a little longer was allowed to walk among the living, he apparently had only one goal: The space flight. At least that explains how the somewhat special, but all the more interesting "retro space alien" world of Prey came about.

Pure confusion!

If you get strange deja vus from the title and the alien theme: That's right, Prey was already planned in one way or another. The alien shooter was hyped back then as "Prey 2" and to this day it is unclear why the promising story of the alien hunter never made it into the shops. Apart from the name and the alien theme, however, there are few similarities between the two games. Main thing aliens, huh?

Despite the confusing backstory and disappointment at Prey 2's lack of a finale, we see potential in the new Bethesda shooter. Instead of a kidnapped Indian, we are now Morgan Yu. In an alien-dominated Earth, our deepest desire is to improve humanity—biologically. Of course, as fate, Arkane and Bethesda would have it, things go wrong and we wake up confused at Talos Research Station. So much should be said at this point: Alien DNA that has got out of control is responsible for our confusion and also the danger against which we have to assert ourselves.

Space Dishonored with Saints Row Weapons?

If we first have to fight our way through with makeshift weapons like Fallout, one thing quickly becomes clear: Prey values weapons. There are no limits to creativity here - great! The world of weapons is partly reminiscent of the Saints Row series, for example a "recycling gun" is part of the game. This lives up to its name and doesn't do anything differently with opponents - it just recycles them.

Despite the slight resemblance to Saints Row, it's now more or less the general consensus that Prey is strongly reminiscent of Dishonored. If we take a closer look at the previously mentioned history of the origin of the space shooter, it also explains why.

The cooperation between Bethesda and Arkane, who are responsible for Dishonored, probably went like this:

"Hi, this is Bethesda. You have such an alien shooter.
Do you still need a name?”
"Erm.. how now?"
"Call that thing Prey. Dusting off Prey 2 hype and such. Really cool. Believe me."

So, or something like that at least. We'll probably see on May 2th whether Prey can escape its reputation as a recycled Prey 5 in the form of a space dishonored. Until then, it's time to wait and diligently watch the gameplay videos that have already been released. If you don't like spoilers, you should just wait, because Bethesda actually reveals a lot in advance. In any case, we remain curious and hope that the hole left by Prey 2 will eventually be filled.
