Maps saves you the search for a parking space in the future

Google maps on smartphone

Google Maps will show the parking situation in the future and makes the tiresome search for a parking space easier for motorists. Of course, not every free parking space is displayed. Districts, airports and public spaces are supplemented with information intended to inform drivers about the general availability of parking spaces. These useful tips are then taken directly into the route planning and then guide the driver to areas where a parking space can be found more easily.

Three levels let you search less

With the hints, Google probably relies on empirical values from the Internet. Individual areas are sorted into three levels: easy, medium and limited. While the small indicator symbol still appears in blue for "light" and "medium", it turns red for "limited". This makes it easy to see whether it is worth looking for a parking space or whether a nearby area should be visited. The clues are like this: "Parking is usually limited near this destination". There is no point in narrowing it down more precisely, but it is certainly helpful nonetheless.

For the time being, the information service will only be available for public and heavily frequented places. Shopping centers, airports and similar areas will be supplemented by the information in the future. It remains to be seen to what extent the program will actually display the current situation. Because nobody will know that airports are busy during the holiday season until they see Google Maps. As the small neighborhood next door is significantly more difficult to analyze, the usefulness of the new parking service will become apparent. Anyway, it sounds promising!

Exact cities not yet known

According to Google, the new option should appear in version 9.44. However, it is not yet clear for which countries. Accordingly, it is not yet possible to narrow down the cities in which the program is to work. However, it is logical that almost all large German cities should benefit directly from the program. As soon as new information leaks out, you'll be the first to know!
