Elon Musk: Self-Driving Cars and Computer Brains

Elon Musk closeup

Elon Musk – who doesn't know him. As one of the well most famous and successful entrepreneurs is he known for TeslaPaypal last but not least SpaceX – his own space company. Now the visionary wants to explore a new area: connecting human brains with computers.

Too much sci fi?

What do Elon Musk, Keanu Reeves and Johnny Depp have in common? An unimaginably large amount of money. And recently not only that, but also the topic of computer brains. To be precise: connecting human brains to computers. While Reeves and Depp keep it all fictional in The Matrix and Transcendence, Musk's endeavor is no longer just fiction. Like many of you, Musk doesn't seem to have disliked the films. When inspiration meets a lot of entrepreneurship and musk money, then Neuralink happens. Neuralink is the company with which Elon Musk is once again trying to turn fiction into reality.

"Pay close attention to the development of artificial intelligence."

Musk has spoken of the need to connect neural tissue to computers several times. This is necessary in view of the danger of artificial intelligence. The neuronal connection is to be created with the help of electrodes and is currently hardly imaginable. Of course, the medical company that is enjoying the multi-billionaire's stake is still miles away from its ultimate goal and also acknowledges that it is still in the "embryo phase".

Visionary or laughing stock?

With Musk's fame and his extraordinary projects, criticism is of course inevitable. Many consider the entrepreneur to be a crazy dreamer and Tesla as a company is grossly overvalued in the market anyway. Our point of view? It may be. However, not even half of the critics are half as successful as Musk and ultimately his wealth gives him a certain legitimacy. Because who should tackle the biggest questions of our future if not one of the people with the greatest means?

Of course, goals such as transporting people through space using magnetic force and networking them with computers currently seem utopian. However, the speed of development in the technology sector is inevitably underestimated. In our opinion, as technology fans, you owe it to yourself to remain open-minded and not narrow-mindedly evaluate tomorrow's future with today's means. Someone has to start, right? So why not Elon Musk. And if our skeptical thoughts keep us from reaching for the future when headlines like this happen, we should all ask our grandmothers and grandfathers about the Internet.
