Samsung DeX Station review

samsung dex

Our subtitle that Samsung is introducing a docking station for the new S8 is not entirely accurate. Because it is no simple docking station, but the South Koreans' new flagship smartphone works as a PC! As we mentioned in our last news about Smartphones as PC brains reported, Apple is also working on such an idea in a slightly different way. But Samung is a big step ahead of the American electronics giant this time and will probably launch the “DeX Station” on March 29.03.17th, XNUMX. What it can do and how it works we took a closer look.

Similar to Windows Continuum

Anyone who has already experienced Windows Continuum can certainly imagine something more under the announced DeX Station. Windows already released the "Display Dock" docking station in 2016, with which the Smartphone can also bring every office and Internet function onto one screen. A major difference is of course the operating system. Windows should be familiar, the DeX Station logically runs on Android.

"Sammobile“ has also published information that the super extra to the S8 has two USB ports, to which writing hardware such as a keyboard or mouse can be easily connected. A big disadvantage and incomprehensible to me is the lack of WiFi. Similar to the thing with the dumbphones I see the lack of WiFi or mobile internet as a major weakness. Although the device has a 100K network connection, not all users will probably be able to connect the DeX Station via LAN (not because of inability, but because of the annoying cable running halfway through the apartment.)

4K at 30fps

On the other hand, it is amazing what the S8 can do, and the built-in cooling in the DeX station makes sense. The S4 should be able to calculate full 30K with 8 frames per second and send it to an external monitor.

The surface is called "Samsung Galaxy Desktop" and is reminiscent of a classic desktop layout. A useful feature is the multi-window feature, which allows apps to run in a separate window.

Also worth mentioning is the price of the small converter. The device can be bought from April this year for a mere €150. The price surprises and is set positively low. The strategy is probably to use the price to catapult the device into the hearts of Android fans. We'll see in a few days if that works! However, the idea and the implementation already seem to have worked!
