Dell comes with the first convertible

xps 13 convertible

"2 in 1". Better known in the case of laptops as "convertible", the function describes a device both in the form of a laptop and in the form of a Tablets to be able to use. The new XPS 13 9365 convertible from Dell is said to unite exactly this combination in unprecedented quality. To be more precise, the XPS 13 convertible is a new variant of the powerful Ultrabook 9360, which has been on the market since autumn 2016, and is therefore intended to outperform the competition, the HP Specter x360 and the Lenovo Yoga.

Thinner with the same performance

With Thunderbolt 3, a self-overclocking Kaby Lake chip and a strong battery, the convertible convinces with the usual stable performance from Dell. By the way, Kaby Lake supports DDR4 RAM and has an improved graphics unit. At 304 x 199 mm and 8 to 13 mm in height, it's even more compact and thin than the regular XPS 13. As mentioned, the regular XPS 13, which is currently one of the best ranges of Ultrabooks on the market, comes in at 304 x 200 mm with an overall height of approx. 20 mm. The connections of the new Dell models are also pleasant. The convertible has two USB Type-C ports, one with Thunderbolt 3 and one with USB 3.1 Gen2 plus DisplayPort alternate mode. The 2-in-1 device is charged via one of these USB Type-C ports using a 30-watt power supply. Other connections are the micro SD card reader and the combined headphone/microphone port. The battery is quite large at 40 watts, but the ultrabook also consumes a whopping 60 watt hours and is therefore well equipped with the large battery. After a series of tests, Netflix promises a runtime of 10 hours, and Mobilemark even 15 hours. The screen of the convertible is based on the 9360 model and has the proven IPS and Igzo technology from Dell, but with a modified Tcon. The two available infinity displays either have a resolution of 1.920 x 1.080 pixels or even 3.200 x 1.800 pixels and should each achieve up to 400 candelas per square meter. This resolution is supported by the new NVIDIA GeForce 1050. It is therefore noticeable that quality is important despite the new 2-in-1 design. Between 4 and 16 gigabytes of soldered LPDDR3 RAM is installed and a 256 to 1.024 gigabyte or 128 gigabyte Sata flash drive is installed as an exchangeable M.2 card. Similar to Razer with its new project "Valerie", Dell also uses Kaby Lake chips as processors used, either the Core i5-7Y54 or the Core i7-7Y75. Dell describes the XPS 13 convertible as the smallest 2-in-1 device in the world. However, this attention-catcher is not absolutely necessary thanks to the powerful sounding performance. 9 watt processors, finest workmanship and Gadgets like an infrared camera for Windows Hello (only under the new Windows Creator's Update) equip the model with the latest technology. There will be three different models for which the prices are already known:

  • for €1.400 there is the 7Y54 with 8 gigabytes, 128 gigabytes of hard disk and 1080 pixel display
  • for €1.650 there is the 7Y75 with 8 gigabytes, 256 gigabytes hard drive and QHD+
  • for €1.800 there is the 7Y75 with 8 gigabytes, 512 gigabytes hard drive and QHD+

So far, the release date has been recorded as "2017", model images were leaked on the manufacturer's website at the beginning of the year. Exact dates are not fixed yet, as soon as there is more about the hybrid, you will surely find it with us!
