FIFA 17, Battlefield 1 and Uncharted 4. Game connoisseurs will already have recognized that all of this Games from 2016 are. And it's not just any games from last year, but the most successful new releases. This is measured by the time it takes for the game to break the one million (or 500.000) sales mark.

2016

FIFA 17 is impressive, after all, it only took a week for the millionth CD to hit the counter. Battlefield 1 managed just half that in six weeks. Uncharted 4 is far behind and only reached the 500.000+ mark after 29 weeks. That makes 2016 a rather bad year for game lovers. If you compare the top 3 and their sales figures with the year before, FIFA 17 is still unbeaten in first place, but it is followed by Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and FIFA 16, both of which also exceeded the million mark (after 29 and 36 weeks) . So FIFA 17 is the “absolute newcomer” of recent years. Even if it is somehow strange to speak of a newcomer at FIFA... But no game had been sold anywhere near as fast. How is it this year? What did the first half of the year offer us and what can we expect for the winter? Here you can find out everything!

A happy year

The current year 2017 already overshadows many game years before. Real gaming heavyweights have already been released and more are to follow. A new Zelda was released for the Switch, confirming Nintendo's reputation as one of the best game makers. The console has been on the market since March and is almost permanently sold out. So it's no wonder that "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" is already one of the winners of the year with 1,5 million copies sold. A fun fact that proves this: The game has already been bought more often than the console reported to GameStop. Who buys a game without a console? Well, probably the ones that are still waiting for the console to be delivered and even now that could take weeks to months.

The 4K hit “Horizon-Zero Dawn” for the PS4 also blew gamers away this year. After the game, Nintendo and lick each other Microsoft the finger! An open world with a strong and lovingly designed post-apocalypse ensures fun and strategically fine fights. To name another game from the past six months, I now come to “Persona 5”. The Japanese manga hit benefited from the delayed release of "Final Fantasy XV", which was supposed to be released in the same week. On the market in Europe since April 2017, more than half a million copies have already been sold after just two weeks. To date, 1,5 million games of the role-playing game have been sold.

There's more to come

The coming six months will not be overshadowed by the first. Many heavyweights have been announced that will make gamers' hearts leap for joy. Starting with "Star Wars: Battlefront 2", whose predecessor was bought a whopping 2015 million times in 12. The second part should also be as successful. Accordingly, EA secured the city's most expensive advertising space at this year's E3 (beginning June 12) in Los Angeles. A house facade opposite the main entrance was completely decorated with street art for Battlefront 2. If this is just a small foretaste of the complexity of the game, you can be happy! Release is November 17th.

The MMOFPS "Destiny" won many awards in 2014 because the game structure with open world and MMO approaches designed a new type of game: Massively Multiplayer Online First-Person Shooter. At the time of publication, it was not only the most frequently pre-ordered computer game, but was able to recoup the development costs on the first day of sale. As a result, Destiny generated over half a million dollars in just one day. Even if the game was criticized afterwards (expansion sets could already be achieved in the standard version due to errors in the game, so-called "glitches"), the second part is eagerly awaited. Release is September 8th.
