The iPhone 13 is launched

Once again, a big Apple Keynote is just around the corner. As usual, the diversified tech giant from Cupertino is beating the drum and announces the release of several product lines.

New AirPods, the Apple Watch Series 7, a new mini iPad and the MacBook Pro are expected. But on September 14th, the focus will be on the new iPhone 13. The new flagship of the Californians will probably be offered in four variants and should then in the iPhone comparison have the edge

“California Streaming” as a live event

So far the release shows have been recorded. The new releases were presented to the fan base as canned goods. This year should all in real time going on. The event with the significant name will then be available in Germany on September 14 at 19 p.m. on YouTube.

As always, Apple keeps a low profile when it comes to new releases. That's fueling the rumor mill, but like every year, plenty of details are already leaking out ahead of the official launch, which is expected on September 24th.

Pre-orders for the iPhone 13 are already possible

In China, dealers will be taking pre-orders for all four expected models from September 17th. It can be assumed that the new iPhone will not be as long in coming as was the case with the iPhone 12 model last year. At that time there was probably a delay caused by the pandemic, the devices were only available from mid-October.

Deutsche Telekom is also prepared. From now on, the company allows its customers to apply for a new Smartphone to be registered by Apple, Samsung and also Xiaomi. The registration form can be accessed online. Existing customers can secure the new device as part of a contract extension. New customers are also welcome this year to reserve the iPhone with 5G standard in advance. Registered customers benefit from preferred delivery and exclusive access to accessories. Of course, this only applies while stocks last.

The model family

The name of the new iPhone has not yet been finally confirmed. Apple is always good for a surprise and could change its naming policy and call the new model 12S. The number 13 has a bad reputation in many cultures and is considered a bringer of misfortune. However, the past generations were always baptized in numerically ascending order.

Insiders like Bloomberg's Mark Gurman assume four models. This is likely to be the case 13 iPhone Mini with a 5,4 inch screen. The standard model iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro come with a 6,1 inch screen and in iPhone 13 Pro Max should even be installed a 6,7 inch. There is still a question mark behind the iPhone 13 Mini, which is said to be relatively difficult to sell. A first group photo of the family shows all four models at the same time.

The design

Apple is usually not willing to make drastic design changes. Therefore, the look of the new models will not differ much from that of the 12 series. Small but targeted changes in the camera arrangement seem to be safe. What is striking here is the diagonal arrangement of the lenses in the smallest model of the family.

Some case manufacturers have received dummies of each model to adjust their production. Although these give little information on the smallest details, a size comparison can be made. This is how the new one will be Housing become a hair's breadth thicker and the camera lenses grow.

Which colors are there?

The information available so far on the color scheme is unconfirmed and more likely to be assigned to the area of speculation. Renderings from spring show the models in bright colors like red or purple.

According to other reports, Apple will expand the color palette to include bronze and orange. Most of the references are to a matte black version. This should possibly replace graphite.

the display

There could be interesting innovations on the screen. While the front camera disappears behind a small hole in the display in the Android system camp, Apple has so far used a complex Face ID system. This offers more security, but also takes up significantly more space.

Some insiders believe that the masks that have to be worn since the pandemic are making facial recognition more difficult. Apple would therefore return to fingerprint identification. This assumption is fueled by the recognized analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who confirms that there should be a smaller notch in the iPhone 13 that no longer protrudes as far into the display as before.

Always-on display with 120 Hertz

In the iPhone 13, selected functions such as battery status and time should be displayed permanently when the screen is darkened. This happens under the influence of the new OLED technology, in which black pixels do not consume electricity and therefore do not load the battery.

The expected improvements in the presentation are likely to be more important. So far, all of the brand's displays have run at 60 Hertz. This causes a flickering image in apps and games that offer fast-moving content. The image also often wobbles when scrolling websites quickly. In the future, static content is expected to drop well below the usual 60 Hertz to conserve battery life. The full potential of 120 Hertz only unfolds with moving images. This is made possible by the new LTPO technology (Low Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide), which is already being used in the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and has been successfully adopted so far.

Camera changes

According to reports from Bloomberg, the most exciting new features will be found in the camera app's features. The options for editing photos and videos will also be improved. The quality of the camera products improves noticeably with the help of artificial intelligence (AI). In addition, a modern and high-quality format should optimize the quality of the video recordings. The new thing is that, like with photos, the depth of field in the background can be adjusted afterwards.

The information regarding the camera equipment of this year's model indicates that the 13 and 13 Mini versions only have two lenses. The Pros would be outfitted with three lenses. However, experts such as Apple analyst Kuo assume that the ultra-wide-angle camera will be noticeably improved. You will be given a new six-lens lens and a real autofocus. In addition, a faster aperture could be installed.

Better image stabilization using sensor shift technology, as can already be found in the iPhone 12 Pro Max, is also under discussion. The conventional Pro model is upgraded with a larger telephoto focal length of 65 mm instead of the previous 52 mm. In addition, the main camera of the Pro models should be equipped with larger image sensors from Sony. The improvements mean that the camera block will grow by 0,9 mm. According to leaker Max Weinbach, the innovations in the camera complex enable both clear motifs from the starry sky and optimized settings for astrophotography.

satellite function

There is also talk of the iPhone 13 bringing an unprecedented feature, satellite telephony. The function is to be made possible by an X60 chip from Qualcomm. This would theoretically make it possible to make phone calls or send short messages, even without a connection to a mobile network or WLAN connection.

More speed with Apple A15

A modernization of the processor is considered fairly certain. Digitimes reports that production of the new Apple A15 has started and will exceed the volume of its predecessor, the A14.

Connectors & Connections

It is unlikely that Apple will launch a model without any physical connection this year, although it is technically feasible. At least in Europe, this contradicts the efforts of the EU (European Union) to install a uniform charging socket in the form of USB-C. That would be possible with the iPhone 14 next year at the earliest.

In addition to 5G, the iPhone 13 should support a new WLAN technology and transmit via Wifi 6E. This technology extends the well-known Wifi 6 and offers faster data rates and higher performance with lower latency at the same time.

Battery & Storage

All new devices should get a more powerful battery. With the 13 Pro Max, this increase is 18%. When it comes to memory, there is talk of adding a terabyte version to the previous version, which was capped at 512 GB (gigabytes).

The prices

Signs are coming from China that the entry-level prices are identical to the previous model and range between €800 and €1.250. The model with terabytes of storage is estimated at €2.000. However, possible price increases due to the current chip crisis have not yet been taken into account.
