Android 8: convincing new features

Android 8 New Features

Hiroshi Lockheimer, Android development chief, often makes fun of it. The name of the latest Android system is often hotly debated among fans in advance based on the first letter. Lockheimer posted a picture on Twitter that one Oreo cake showed. That's why many interested parties are speculating that Android 8 will be named after the well-known black and white biscuit. To be honest, it doesn't really matter, what really counts is the content and what features the new operating system boasts.

The name is traditional

To bring the little hook from the introduction to an end: Google has been naming all updates after well-known sweets (in alphabetical order) since the first Android generation. Arriving at "O" in the meantime, Oreo is probably pretty close. You can now find out what innovations are coming.

It should be in the fall new pixel smartphones give. Google is also expected to bring a new operating system. The search engine giant has so far revealed a number of new features. For me personally there is a highlight. Summarizing notifications (updates, news, messages, SMS, etc.). This means that pop-ups in an area do not all appear individually on the display, but are grouped and can be called up more clearly ("Notification Channels"). The flooding of the lock screen that is typical for Android will hopefully be rectified with this.

All round better?

The quality of the transmission to Bluetooth headphones was worked on. The sound output should be improved by the update. Also nice is the option to change icons on the home screen. How exactly this will look like in the end is still unclear, but being able to let your own creativity run free always sounds good at first.

The new video function is defined a little more precisely. A picture-in-picture mode should allow videos to continue running in a small frame, even though you are using another app. For fans of Youtube or Soundcloud, this feature allows you to easily continue listening to music even while chatting in WhatsApp.

market leader

As the market leader with 80 percent market share, Android is by far the most common operating system for Smartphones. The rest is taken by Apple iOS. Google's annual developer conference is in May. All technical details should be clarified. Let's wait until then and enjoy puzzling over the new operating system name.
