The last few weeks have been turbulent for Apple. Most journalists are now certain: The iPhone 8 was completely leaked. Design surprises are extremely unlikely – meanwhile the production of the new Apple smartphone was started. What can you expect from the iPhone 8?
The biggest redesign in years
As always, months ago there was wild speculation about the new iPhone. All sorts of concepts and renders flutter through the web, most of them as futuristic as they are improbable. But now the reports from peripheral manufacturers who have received templates of the new device in order to be able to prepare their own products are piling up. Accordingly, the device should have a 5,8-inch OLED display and a thinner frame. The home button should disappear and now be available digitally, similar to Android. It is therefore suspected that Touch ID will be replaced by face recognition. The camera, sensors and speaker for telephony are housed in a rounded bar in the top center which is surrounded by parts of the display. Due to the complex production, there should only be three colors (probably black, silver and gold) when the device is released. Compared to the iPhone 7, the new version should be significantly higher and slightly wider.
The camera should now be mounted vertically on the back. A clear "camera bump" is also visible on most leaks, i.e. a protruding camera. The back of the new iPhone 8 will be made of glass.
New features and improved specifications
The iPhone 8 is expected to feature the faster A11 processor. The facial recognition mentioned is traded under the code name Pearl. It is said that Pearl can also be used for Apple Pay. At the same time, notifications could be automatically disabled when the user is on Smartphone looks. By not using aluminium Housing could enable Apple wireless charging. It is relatively certain that Apple will enable fast charging. It is unlikely that Qualcomm's Quick Charge will be used here, but rather the integrated quick charge function of USB 3.1.
Delivery problems expected
Delivery bottlenecks are expected, especially due to the new design and the special type of displays Apple wants to use. The production of OLED panels is not expected to increase significantly until the fourth quarter of 2017. The production of the new flagship could therefore falter until the beginning of 2018.
