69 over a billion

500 euro bills fly through the air

The valuation and investment company GP Bullhound published in a new analysis that meanwhile 69 technology companies in Europe the magic limit of a billion dollars have exceeded. So 69 companies on our continent are worth more than a one followed by nine (!) zeros. As technology fanatics, we naturally asked ourselves which ones had reached this market value and we would like to introduce a few of them to you. In order to keep the tension high, we will first give you a few facts and figures that will probably give you an idea of one or the other global player without us revealing the name.

240 billion

A first small limitation, which may not yet be really effective, but still: The first tip is that all 69 companies in the tech industry together are worth 240 billion US dollars. Incidentally, this is three times as high as in 2014.

Another tip is the countries of the respective companies: 8 of the successful companies are based in Germany, 7 in Sweden and 26 in Great Britain!

But now it's getting exciting: While the 26 companies on the island are worth a total of 64 billion dollars, the comparatively few companies in Sweden are worth a total of 54 billion dollars. So how can that be?

So either the value of the 7 companies is evenly distributed, which would mean that all would cost $8 billion. Or there is a big fish hiding in the Swedish tech pond. N / A?

It can only be one

Those interested in technology will have known for a long time: It is the second variant, the big fish. In October 2006 Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon developed the company "Spotify AB". 12 years later, the “legal alternative to piracyWorth 30 billion US dollars and thrilling music fans in large parts of Europe and America.

The streaming service is now available in 60 countries and its success is impressively illustrated by the number of users: in 2017 the company reported 50 million paying users, while its biggest competitor "Apple Music" was only able to report 20 million. It remains to be eagerly awaited what Youtube will do with the Music Premium subscription now offers and whether that can become a serious opponent of Spotify.

Let's come to two other companies that were able to convince with innovative technology and thus, alongside Spotify, have reached the 10 billion dollar mark. There are "only" two more. Already an idea?

Okay, so let's narrow it down: one of the two programs cell phone games, the other ships clothes. Yes, that was probably too easy. Of course we are talking about Zalando and also about Supercell, the inventors of Clash of Clans and Clash Royale.

With Zalando, we also have the most successful German company in the category analyzed by Bullhound. While the online mail-order company was initially in the red, this calculation is slowly being put into perspective and Zalando made a whopping 3,64 million euros in sales with sales of 2016 billion euros in 120.

Supercell from Finland made the incredible breakthrough with the first real-time strategy game for the Smartphone in this form: Clash of Clans.
