If you are looking for a noble external 2,5 inch hard drive, you should look at the ADATA DashDrive Elite HE720 find what you are looking for. This slim model (only 8,9mm high) comes in a brushed, scratch-resistant stainless steel body. The test device provided by ADATA for our "External Hard Drive Test" is equipped with a Storage capacity of 1TB equipped (also available in 500GB). The cache is specified as 16MB, it rotates at 5400RPM, a USB 3.0 interface is used. That all sounds very promising in advance - our test will go into more detail on the individual points.
What's in the box
We find it very nice that the hard drive comes with a bag that can be used to protect it additionally. Although the stainless steel housing is scratch-resistant, a fall would be additionally cushioned with the bag. The only downside here: The plastic bag stinks a lot.
processing / design
As already mentioned, the brushed stainless steelHousing of the hard disk very high quality. It is not screwed but clamped. The top and bottom of the hard disk are kept very simple and smooth. The extremely flat design is also very positive. With only 8,9mm, some other hard drive manufacturers can learn something from this design. At 163g, the hard drive is a bit heavier than competitors with plastic or aluminum casings, but this is not worth mentioning since the stainless steel sheet seems to be very thin, but this is not noticeable when you press the hard drive. There is a small blue status light on the top that glows steadily when the hard drive is connected to the computer. It flickers during operation, which is not a problem. Otherwise there is only a small USB 3.0 input and a backup button on the front. We will go into the second in more detail.
Hardware
A Write speed of 95,52 MB / sec and an Read speed of 111,38 MB/s the hard drive is in the middle. The writing speed could be faster, the reading speed is very decent.
A small backup software is stored on the ADATA DashDrive Elite HE720, which can be installed on the PC in order to create a backup on the hard drive at the push of a button. Which data is taken into account and how can be defined in the software interface. Very useful, we think, for briefly backing up sensitive data without having to click through Explorer.
The USB cable is kept quite short at around 20cm, which is 2,5 inches hard drives is normal.

Conclusion
This chic hard disk from ADATA was able to convince us in almost every respect. The writing speed could be a bit faster, but the reading speed was very decent. The processing and the design leave nothing to be desired. The extremely flat model even fits in a trouser pocket. In our opinion, the price/performance ratio is also right for this hard drive. Minus the small minus point of the writing speed and the strongly smelling case, we come to a rating of 4,5 stars. With that we speak one clear buy recommendation .
