Fire HD 10 Kids Pro tablet

When older children want a tablet, it is often not that easy to fulfill their wish, as many of the commercially available devices are aimed more at younger preschoolers. Of course, such models are not cool enough for kids of primary school age, so an age-appropriate tablet is needed. The Fire HD 10 Kids Pro tablet is aimed at children in exactly this age group and fortunately doesn't tear too deep a hole in the wallet. But is the investment of around 220 euros worth it? Our tablet test will tell you.

A first look at the Fire HD 10 Kids Pro tablet

The Fire HD 10 Kids Pro tablet is basically no different from the structurally identical Fire HD 10 Kids Tablet, which does not have the suffix “Pro” in its name. From the outside, however, there is a difference, because the protective cover of the device no longer looks quite as playful as it does on the model for preschoolers. Instead, there are "cooler" versions with a graffiti look or a spacey space look to choose from, which are guaranteed to appeal to older kids. As usual, a fold-out stand is installed on the back of the protective cover, which allows the user to place the tablet on the Table or set up on the floor. You can watch films or photos in good company without having to hold the device in your hand all the time.

If, despite the very good protective cover, you should still fall and damage the device, there is no reason to worry, because the 2-year worry-free guarantee applies in this case. The defective device is simply sent to Amazon and the company will send back a completely new device in exchange - a real plus.

The features of the Fire HD 10 Kids Pro tablet

When buying a tablet PC, there are a few important criteria that must be taken into account: It should have a good display with high resolution, work quickly and smoothly and ideally also have a good digital camera. We took a closer look at these three points with the Fire HD 10 Kids Pro tablet.

performance

With the Fire HD 10 Kids Pro tablet, Amazon has built a powerful octa-core processor with a clock rate of 2,0 GHz into the device, which can certainly convince with its brisk performance. This is also made possible by the increased random access memory which now comes with a whopping 3 GB. The smaller Fire 7 Kids and Fire 8 HD Kids models, on the other hand, only have 2 GB, so these devices unfortunately often experience unsightly stuttering or dropouts during use. The Fire HD 10 Kids Pro tablet, on the other hand, runs absolutely smoothly when surfing the Internet, playing various games and using apps or video streams, which is of course much more fun.

This device has 32 GB of storage space for installing apps, games, etc. If you save a lot of videos and photos, you will quickly notice that this is not very much. Luckily, however, the tablet has a microSD memory card slot that can be used to expand storage up to 1 TB.

Display

The Fire HD 10 Kids Pro tablet comes with a 10-inch display that scores with Full HD resolution - i.e. with a resolution of 1.920 x 1.080 pixels. This means that the device is superior to both the Fire 7 Kids and the Fire 8 HD Kids, both of which have a significantly lower and no longer up-to-date resolution. The razor-sharp resolution makes it really great fun to watch Full HD films or use HD apps on the Fire HD 10 Kids Pro tablet - even the little users will appreciate that.

Camera

The built-in camera is the biggest weak point in the 7 and 8 models, because it has a resolution of just 2 megapixels and thus delivers underground results. On the other hand, Amazon has upgraded the Fire HD 10 Kids Pro tablet, which at least has a 5-megapixel camera installed. Of course, you can't expect impressive pictures here either, but in contrast to the results of the 2 megapixel cam, there is definitely a visible improvement.

Unfortunately, the camera can still only record videos with a 720p resolution. However, we didn't quite understand why Amazon installed a Full HD display, but didn't fully exploit its advantages by also installing a Full HD camera. There is also a second camera on the front, which allows you to take selfies - but unfortunately only with a 2-megapixel resolution.

And otherwise?

Like all tablets in the Fire Kids series, the Fire HD 10 Kids Pro tablet also offers a special dashboard for parents, where you can set how long the child can work with the tablet in a few simple steps. For example, you can specify how long trips to the Internet are allowed, which apps can be used for how long, or how long the total screen time can be. In addition, the tablet has a whole range of safety precautions that, among other things, help ensure that only child-friendly pages can be accessed when surfing the Internet.

We also really liked the pre-installed Amazon service Amazon Kids+, which allows access to thousands of child-friendly content from well-known brands such as Disney, Lego, Nick or Amazon Kids at any time. The individual offers such as radio plays, videos, learning apps, audio books or games are cataloged according to age groups, so there should definitely be something suitable for every taste. Fire HD 10 Kids Pro tablet buyers can use this service for free for a whole year. After that, Prime customers will have to pay EUR 4,99 per month and non-Prime customers EUR 7,99 per month. Of course, you can also cancel the service on a monthly basis if you wish.

Another plus point in our tablet test is the powerful battery of the Fire HD 10 Kids Pro tablet, which lasts around 13 hours on a full charge. So you can be absolutely sure that you won't get bored during a long journey by car or train. Conversely, however, it takes quite a long time to fully charge the battery: You should plan around five hours for this task.

And finally ...

The Fire HD 10 Kids Pro tablet not only impresses with its robust Case, which comes along with this model in particularly "cool" designs for older children, but also because of its excellent features: The built-in 10-inch display has a Full HD resolution and is therefore convincing with optimal sharpness and good colors. while inside the device is a powerful octa-core processor with 2,0 Ghz and 3 GB RAM. There are also plus points for the pre-installed Amazon Kids+ service and for the many setting options for time-limited use and for limiting Internet content. In a nutshell, the Fire HD 10 Kids Pro tablet is one of the best kids' tablets on the market right now, so we give it a clear recommendation.
