However, many manufacturers still offer them under the name mobile phone holder - presumably because this name has been common for many years. However, it is much more important that you are familiar with the construction methods presented below.
Charging stations for individual smartphones
Charging stations for a single device are already available for little money. They are usually made of plastic and are relatively compact. They can therefore be placed on any desk or bedside table, no matter how small, but still offer a secure hold for the inserted smartphone.
Charging stations for several smartphones
If there are several smartphones in a household (e.g. because your partner or children also live in the apartment), buying a charging station for several smartphones can prove useful. Several devices can be charged at the same time, so you don't always have to wait until the charging cable is available again. As a rule, such a charging station is a device with several chambers in which the devices are simply placed in a row in a horizontal position. But there are also versions in which the devices are placed side by side in an upright position - but these are of course correspondingly wider.
Charging stations for smartphones and tablets
Various manufacturers now also offer combination charging stations, with which you can not only charge your smartphone, but also an additional one Tablet can charge. The micro-USB port is considered outdated and is therefore mainly found on older devices. However, the term "old" is a broad term, because we are not talking about devices that are ten years old or older. However, there is also the option of retrofitting a new charging station with a USB-C connection using small adapters so that they are also able to charge devices with an older micro-USB connection - these adapters are often even included in the scope of delivery.

Apple has still not managed to use USB-C for its own smartphones and tablet PCs. Instead, the Californian company still swears by the self-designed Lightning connector for the iPhone and iPad, which is not compatible with USB cables. Wireless charging: Mobile phone charging stations with induction technology are very trendy
Almost all mobile phone charging stations have one thing in common: They charge the inserted smartphone via a built-in charging cable, which of course also has to be supplied with electricity. However, modern charging stations with induction technology are an exception here. Here the mobile phone does not have to be plugged into the built-in connection, but instead simply placed on the charging station - usually this is a plate-like device. When you hang up, the smartphone is automatically recognized by the charging station and charged immediately. The induction technology works with two coils: one coil is in the charging station and emits the required energy, the other coil is in the mobile phone itself and absorbs the energy emitted - this is also known in a similar way from induction Hobs in the home kitchen.
The big advantage: The induction technology works across all manufacturers, so that guests can easily charge their smartphones. The only important thing here is that the respective manufacturers use the same wireless technology - QI has meanwhile blossomed into the predominant standard here. But watch out, the induction technology unfortunately also has disadvantages. The charging speed is usually significantly slower than when charging with a classic charging cable. What is surge protection?
Above all, charging stations that allow several cell phones to be charged at the same time should have overvoltage protection. This helps ensure that the station's output is automatically shut down in the event of an impending overvoltage. With devices without such a function, you instead run the risk of irreparably damaging your cell phone due to excessive performance. Especially tempting bargains from China often come without overvoltage protection. So here it is absolutely necessary: hands off and rather invest the money in a high-quality device.
Are there also charging stations that are not made of plastic?
Plastic is a real problem for the environment, which is why many customers are now doing without this material. Fortunately, there are also high-quality wooden charging stations on the market.
