Design

The design of the Majority Homerton internet radios is really an absolute eye-catcher. The device is optionally available with a black Housing or a case in walnut or oak look, whereby the latter variant is clearly our favourite. Both the front and the control panel attached to the top as well as the surround of the loudspeaker box are made of brushed stainless steel, which gives the radio an extremely stylish component, and the processing quality is simply flawless.

With its dimensions of 21 x 24 x 13 cm, the radio is not quite as compact as some of its competitors and the weight of around 2 kg is also quite bulky, but you always have the feeling of owning an extremely robust device - which one also acts as a guaranteed eye-catcher in every room.

What's in the box

The Majority Homerton internet radio comes with a Power Supplies, which is used to connect to the electricity. In addition, the British manufacturer has given the radio a remote control, which enables full operation of the device from a distance. This is at least partly reminiscent of the Amazon Fire TV Stick remote control, but has significantly more buttons – without being confusing. Thanks to the ergonomic shape, the remote control fits perfectly in the hand and is also pleasantly light.

Facilities

As befits a modern radio, the Majority Homerton internet radio enables reception of stations via DAB and the successor DAB+, which ensures excellent sound quality. With this radio, the annoying noise that one knows from classic FM radios is a thing of the past – unless you opt for the alternative radio reception via said FM, which is also possible with the Majority Homerton. To ensure better reception, the radio is equipped with a small antenna on the back of the device, which can be pulled out if required. If you do not need this, it remains completely invisible to the eye of the beholder and therefore does not detract from the elegant look of the radio.

If you don't just want to listen to various radio stations from the immediate vicinity, you can also connect the Majority Homerton to your home WLAN router via the integrated WLAN interface and then receive thousands of programs from all over the world. Even foreign stations can be easily received with the small radio - provided, of course, that the desired station offers a live stream over the Internet. It would have been nice if the radio would also offer a classic Internet connection via LAN cable in addition to the wireless connection via WLAN, since WLAN connections are unfortunately known for small dropouts. In this case, however, the connection seems to be very stable, so that you can safely ignore this shortcoming.

If the radio isn't playing any good songs, you can simply listen to your favorite tunes by using the USB port on the back to insert a USB stick with MP3 files on it. This is even more modern via a Bluetooth-enabled Smartphone or Tablet: Simply connect the respective device to the radio and you can stream all the music files stored on the mobile device - or simply enjoy songs from Spotify & Co over the speakers of the radio. By the way, those who prefer it more classic can simply listen to their old CDs, because the Majority Homerton internet radio even has an integrated CD player.

Other special features

A real highlight of the Majority Homerton Internet radio is its built-in display: while most devices from the competition only show the name of the song currently playing and the associated artist, the Homerton's not-so-small LCD screen proves to be a true multi-functional talent: It shows the current time, but also the weather report in combination with the associated symbols, the logo of the station that is switched on or a short news overview with the most important headlines. Such a versatile display is extremely rare in this price range, so this is a real plus point.

The additional function of the USB connection is also very practical: If no USB stick is connected here, you can simply use your smartphone Tablet PC or charge another battery-powered USB device. Also practical: With the help of an integrated sleep timer, you can simply let yourself be lulled to sleep with your favorite music in the evening - the device switches itself off after a specified time. The next morning you can be woken up with music if you wish, because the radio also has an alarm function.

The Majority Homerton internet radio in a practical test

In fact, it is very seldom that an Internet radio performs as well in a practical test as is the case with the Majority Homerton. Thanks to its comparatively large loudspeaker, the sound quality of the radio is impressively good - not as impressive as that of a classic stereo system, but strong enough to optimally fill a conventional living room with sound. So that you don't have to be satisfied with the classic standard sound, the device offers its owner a wide variety of equalizer settings, which can be used to further optimize the ejected sound - which, in contrast to many other devices, actually ensures a better audio experience. In addition, operating the Internet radio is very easy - both via the device itself and via the supplied remote control. Although one or the other technology nerd will miss a connection option with the language assistant Alexa, in our opinion this gadget is not really necessary anyway.

Conclusion

The Majority Homerton is definitely one of the best internet radios we've ever tested. Everything is just right here: The design is beautiful, the processing quality is extremely high, the sound quality is perfect and this device is also way ahead in terms of equipment. Real highlights here are definitely the built-in color display, which, in addition to artist information, can also display various other displays, as well as alternative music enjoyment via smartphone, tablet PC, USB stick or classic CD. If you then also keep an eye on the surprisingly low purchase price, there is actually no good reason against buying this radio.
