With regard to a complete cleaning of the computer peripherals, it is advantageous that you only need a few things and usually even have them in stock. Equipment includes a brush or cotton swab, a microfiber cloth, a compressed air spray or hair dryer with cold air and a mini vacuum cleaner.
Keyboard Mouse
These are not only essential in terms of hardware. For users who mainly use their computer for gaming, they are also an integral part of their gaming peripherals. For this reason alone, regular and thorough care is essential.
But there is also a health aspect: according to the UK's largest consumer organization Which? The most significant risk of infection at the workplace is caused by dirty keyboards. And the microbiologist working at the University of Arizona (USA), Dr. Charles Gerba found in a study that there are on average 400 times more germs at computer workstations than on toilet seats.
The cleaning begins by shaking out both the keyboard and the mouse thoroughly in order to get rid of the worst of the dirt. Both are then treated with compressed air spray or cold air from a hair dryer. Meanwhile, you should immediately remove the dirt that flies out and, if this has not already been done, remove the coarse dirt from the previous step using a mini vacuum cleaner. Finally, both devices are thoroughly wiped with disinfectant and then treated with plastic cleaner.
In the case of larger areas of soiling, the corresponding buttons must be removed. Then clean the whole thing with a slightly damp microfiber cloth or cotton swab.
Monitor
A monitor should first be cleaned with a soft, dry microfiber cloth. However, the pressure exerted must not be too great. If the result is not yet satisfactory, the said cloth should be moistened with a little lukewarm water. However, it must not be too wet.
You can then easily repeat the process. If dirt is still left after this, the only option is to use a cleaning agent. However, conventional cleaning agents often contain substances that attack the coating of the screen. Therefore, it is best to use one that has been specially designed for monitors.
But even such special means should never be applied directly to the monitor, but again using the cloth already mentioned. Otherwise there is a risk of moisture penetrating the inside of the screen.
Inner workings
When it comes to the inner workings of a computer, most dirt collects in the fan blades. For cleaning, the computer must first be unplugged and the side panel of the case removed. With the cold air of a hair dryer or a compressed air spray, the interior can then be freed from the coarsest dirt. Here, too, you should use a mini vacuum cleaner at the same time to suck up the dirt that flies out immediately. Finally, the slats are cleaned with a slightly damp cotton swab. After both sides of the stick are covered with dirt, it is necessary to take a new one.
For cleaning graphics card and RAM (= Random Access Memory) these must first be expanded. Classic liquid cleaners must not be used here. After that, you should first clean the hard drive and installation points with the mini vacuum cleaner. The entire inner case is then thoroughly vacuumed, although care should be taken with those cables that are connected to the motherboard. RAM and graphics card are cleaned with a microfiber cloth, brush or cotton swab. For more stubborn dirt, it can also be moistened with alcohol or distilled water.
