What's in the box
The scope of delivery of the WD gaming memory is therefore quite manageable. In addition to the external hard drive itself, there is another in the packaging USB 3.0 Cable to connect the same to the console. If you disregard the installation instructions that are also included (which you don't really need), that should have been it.

When designing its gaming memory, the US company Western Digital visibly great effort. The front of the black hard drive is decorated with a line pattern that looks classic and modern at the same time, while a blue border provides color accents. As soon as you examine the record for the first time, you quickly realize that the processing quality of the same is significantly better than it appears at first glance - because in contrast to some employees, it feels extremely valuable in the hand. It's a pity, however, that the manufacturer didn't give this model a fall and impact shock, because a lot can happen when transporting it to a gamer's party or to your best friend.
It is also annoying that the WD gaming memory does not have anti-slip precautions on the underside that would ensure a secure footing. For example, if the PlayStation 4 is on a parquet floor, the plate moves back and forth with every touch. In view of the otherwise flawless workmanship, this is of course whining at a high level, but it is precisely such small details that ultimately make a perfect external hard drive. On the other hand, the USB cable, which is also blue, is cool and harmonises almost perfectly with the look of the PlayStation 4.
Hardware
As already mentioned, the WD gaming memory is equipped with a USB 3.0 connection. It can easily be connected to a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5, but not to one XBOX One from Microsoft – Western Digital offers the alternative My Passport X hard drive especially for this console. Coming back to gaming storage, connecting to the PlayStation is a breeze as you can store your favorite games on it right after formatting the drive. This is not only practical for freeing up the memory of the PS4: You can also simply take your favorite games with you to friends and start them directly on their consoles.
The gaming memory is also convincing in terms of its write speed: A maximum of 600 MB/s is possible thanks to SATA600, but in reality you have to get used to the lower speed: Our test showed that the gaming memory had an average writing speed of ____ MB/s and a reading speed of ____ MB/s. Of course, these are still excellent rates for an HHD hard drive. Modern SSD hard drives are of course much faster in comparison, but they also have higher purchase prices - while gaming memory is more profitable for smaller wallets.

WD gaming storage is available in either 2TB or 4TB capacity. If you opt for the 4 TB version, there is room for around 100 PlayStation games, assuming an average size of 36 GB per game. These can be transported relatively easily due to the handy size of the hard drive, which measures just 11 x 1.27 x 11 cm. What is striking, however, is that the gaming memory, weighing around 130 g, is slightly heavier than most other current hard drives of this type. The price-performance ratio of the disk is impressive: it cost the 4 TB version gigabytes only 2,9 cents at the time of our test.
Incidentally, the gaming memory can not only be used in combination with the PlayStation 4, but of course also simply on the PC or laptop. This is also possible if your own PC does not have a current USB 3.0 connection, but only a USB 2.0 connection - but then of course with a lower speed.
And finally ...
With its gaming memory, Western Digital has a perfect memory expansion for the PlayStation 4 on offer, which not only impresses with its very pretty design in a black and blue combination look, but also with a respectable read and write speed. However, since the plate is likely to be used by many users to transport their own games from A to B, it would have been nice if Wester Digital had installed reliable shock protection. Admittedly, the record works robust and valuable, but to be honest, you don't really want to let it depend on it. Nevertheless, if you are looking for an external hard drive to connect to the PlayStation 4, you will certainly get your money's worth with this model, which is also convincing in terms of price-performance ratio.
