The ultra-slim design of this compact external hard drive is also appealing. In addition, the HDD is very light and therefore a popular mobile companion. But the Canvio II does not necessarily have to come along, because it can also make the data available to other end devices in a cloud mode. The wired interface appears in the form of USB 3.0 progressive. We took a close look at the 2 terabyte model, but there are also variants with it 1 TB, 3 TB and 500 GB.

The Toshiba Canvio Connect II 2 TB has been stylishly designed and stands out from the crowd with its rounded corners. The circular status LED is a striking design element, and the housing is made of plastic. However, the plastic makes a robust impression and doesn't tend to creak bothersomely. Especially with our white model, the blue light comes into its own. However, if black or white is too boring for you, you can switch to construction, red or gold. With a height of only 2 centimeters, the HDD is extremely flat, but a length of 10,9 centimeters and a width of 7,8 centimeters is also still handy. The hard drive fits comfortably in your hand and can be stowed away anywhere thanks to its low weight of 231 grams. A 2,5-inch HDD works inside. For the Data transmission a fast USB 3.0 connection is used, no other interfaces are available. In practice, we would have found FireWire or eSATA.
Hardware
A cloud connection is possible, but via the detour of a connected PC. Unfortunately, the Toshiba Canvio Connect II 2 TB does not have its own hardware that allows the HDD to be integrated independently into the network. But at a price of less than 100 euros, something like this is hardly to be expected. The manufacturer kindly donates 10 GB of cloud storage so that you can get started with this function right away. However, the connected computer must always be switched on or at least in standby mode. The built-in plate works at 5.400 revolutions per minute. As usual, such specimens are not the quietest of their kind. However, the operating noise of the Toshiba cannot yet be described as annoying. With the backup software NTI® Backup Now EZ, the manufacturer has included a good program that allows important data to be backed up quickly and easily. A built-in shock sensor provides further protection. Incidentally, the device also works on one Mac Hassle free. The pre-installed Mac NTFS driver makes it possible.

The manufacturer himself specifies the transfer rate as up to 5 Gbit/s. The guarantee period is a full 24 months. The Housing the Toshiba Canvio Connect II has a matt design and is therefore not a magnet for fingerprints. This keeps the chic appearance for a long time. Scratches should not be visible too quickly either.
Conclusion
The Toshiba Canvio Connect II is a nice piece of hardware for people who care a lot about design. Despite this, the product is extremely robust and safely designed. The backup function allows you to quickly back up personal memories and sensitive data. Another plus point is the cloud connection, which allows you to have your films, music and photos at hand at all times. However, it should be noted that the device must always be supplied with electricity and connected to a PC. We would have wished for more interfaces on the external hard drive, otherwise there is hardly anything to complain about. So we can recommend the Canvio Connect II.
