The Toshiba Canvio Basics is a compact 2,5-inch external hard drivethat it up to a memory size of ordinary 3 TB gives. In the test, we also took a closer look at this model. With dimensions of just 119 x 78 x 16 mm, this 2,5 inch hard drive is small and handy. Packed in the small case is a SATA/600 Drive from Toshiba, which supplies a 16 MB cache. processing / design
The matte black Housing the Toshiba Canvio Basic is made entirely of plastic. The simple form and compact design give this external hard drive dimensions no larger than a deck of cards. The rounded corners and the matt surface result in a simple look. There are no screws or plug connections to be seen. A small operating light is embedded in the front. At the bottom is the connection for one USB 3.0 Plug. Of course, the Toshiba lettering should not be missing here. This has been embossed with shiny letters on the front.
Hardware
In our test, we were able to measure a real read speed of 126 MB/s and a decent write speed of 132 MB/s. For a 5400 RPM hard drive with a 16 MB cache, this is an extremely good result. Added to this are fast access times. The hard drive runs extremely quietly and doesn't make any noteworthy noises even under full load.

The status light lights up blue in PC or notebook mode. The LED light is not too bright. If you connect the disk to a USB port 2.0 or lower, the display changes to a white light. The supplied cable has a length of 40 cm. Quite sufficient for use on the computer or laptop. As a rule, the power supply via the USB 3.0 connection is sufficient. Anyone who owns a Raspberry PI 2 motherboard used, the drive must be connected to an active USB hub. The Raspberry cannot supply sufficient power. We connected different computers, televisions and media centers and in all cases the disk was recognized without any problems. Even after hours of use, the heat development is very low. The built-in shock sensor makes it quite insensitive to impacts. This external hard drive can even withstand a fall from a small height.
Conclusion
The Toshiba Canvio Basics can score on several levels. The price-performance ratio is particularly good. The small price tag works out at around 6 cents per GB, which compares very favorably to rivals with similar configurations. It's small and light, so it fits easily in your pocket. You can always have this hard drive in your pocket. The good results at the Data transmission also speak for the record.
