There is no question that the SSD hard drives are the hard drives of the future. The modern technology of these hard drives is robust, fast and durable. So if you are looking for an external storage option, then there is one external SSD hard drive definitely a very good possibility.

SSD - the basics
First of all, some information about the basic structure and how it works.
SSD is the abbreviation for the English expression "Solid State Drive“. In German we speak of a solid state drive.
And this is exactly where the biggest and most important difference to the classic hard disk lies: The SSD disk is not made up of moving parts. Instead, flash memory technology relies on solid building blocks.
To be precise, semiconductor memory components are used here. These are already used in other storage media - USB sticks or memory cards are equipped with these non-volatile memory components.
Strictly speaking, these are memory cells in which one, two or three bits can be stored, depending on the design - the fewer bits per cell, the faster and more durable the SSD is, but it is also more expensive and larger.
It is not necessary to continuously power this storage medium to ensure smooth data storage. If an SSD disk is connected to the PC and the power supply is abruptly interrupted, there is no data loss - just like with a classic hard disk, only with a few important advantages:
So what are the advantages of external SSD hard drives?
When we talk about advantages, of course we compare SSD with the classic HDD - and basically there are almost only advantages here.
On the one hand, there are no moving parts installed, which means that there are no operating noises. Even when fully loaded, the disks don't make any noise. In addition, they consume less power, which is also reflected in the fact that less heat is generated - an important issue, especially for mobile devices.
On the other hand, the flash memory allows fast data access. The purely electronic storage process is direct and does not involve long waiting times. Where an HDD is still looking for the beginning of the file, an SSD is already in the middle of it Data transmission, which also runs much faster.
Another advantage is the robustness of the SSD hard drives. The firm and solid construction withstands one or the other shock very well - after all, there are no mechanical parts here. They are therefore very well suited for mobile use.
The small size also contributes to this - SSDs can be built very compactly and, despite their high performance, do not need any additional cooling technology, so that powerful external hard drives with very compact dimensions are possible.
For whom is an external SSD the right choice?
Currently they are external SSD hard drives still quite expensive, which is also the only negative point about the technology - and probably also the only reason why not every new computer has an SSD.
However, if very fast access is one of the main decision-making criteria, the investment is definitely worth it. This technology is also the first choice for people who need a robust external hard drive that can withstand one or the other hit.
In the future, it can be assumed that SSD disks will completely replace magnetic hard disks. Especially when the prices of SSD sink, which will hopefully be possible in the future due to lower production costs, an HDD will have to admit defeat in a direct comparison.
But if you are already using the latest technology and, above all, want to benefit from the really significantly better performance compared to a cheaper HDD, then an SSD hard drive is a good decision and an investment in the future.
