Seagate Game Drive for Xbox review

More space for the games library

Although the video game consoles offer Xbox 360 and Xbox One plenty of space for games, scores, demos and multimedia files right out of the box, but eventually this will run out. This can be remedied by an accessory in the form of an external hard drive. With traditional retail SSDs or HDDs, you need to do a few formatting things to get the Drive easily with one Microsoft Xbox can be used. If you have neither the time nor the inclination to bother with something like that and want to trust in brand quality, this is the option Seagate Game Drive for Xbox 2TB

The California company Seagate has been a manufacturer of computer accessories for over 37 years. For some time now, however, the group has also been supporting video game consoles, designing external media for them that are compatible and ready to use right out of the box. We also wanted to avoid the frustration of running out of memory, so we created the Seagate Game Drive for Xbox 2TB examined more closely.

The specifications of the Seagate Game Drive for Xbox 2TB

As the product name already suggests, you get a hard drive with 2 terabytes of storage space. If that is not enough, you can also choose a version with 4 terabytes. The drive, which communicates internally via SATA, comes in a 2,5-inch form factor and offers the following features:

  • 2 or 4 TB storage
  • Up to 5 Gbps speed
  • Power supply via USB
  • USB 3.0
  • Color green
  • 136 grams weight

Also worth noting is that this hard drive supports Plug & Play. So the drive is ready to use as soon as it is connected to an Xbox 360 or Xbox One. The game console immediately takes care of setting up the Game Drive. Great: A USB 3.0 cable is already included. We found the length of 46 cm to be sufficient.

Everyday use of the Seagate Game Drive for Xbox 2TB

We didn't notice any drop in speed when playing games compared to the hard drive built into the Xbox One. This is probably due to the fast connection via USB 3.0. The device worked as described immediately and without problems. Also worth mentioning is the fact that you can install games that are on the Seagate GameDrive located on another Xbox.

The drive is also compatible with the Xbox One S, but not the very first Xbox. We also found the design to be great, which goes really well with Microsoft's game console. It should be noted, however, that formatting will waste some storage space. Of the advertised 2 terabytes, we still had 1,7 terabytes available for the games. But that's still more than enough.

Conclusion on the Seagate Game Drive for Xbox 2TB

Seagate Game Drive for Xbox 2TB is a must-have for Xbox One or Xbox 360 owners external hard drive quite a bit ago and the speed is also right. In addition, you save time and nerves compared to setting up a standard external HDD or SSD until it works with Microsoft's device. So we can definitely recommend the Seagate Game Drive for Xbox 2TB, especially because of the fair price. Around 100 euros for storing a number of games is worth an investment.
