What's in the box
The scope of delivery of the SanDisk Extreme PRO is quite manageable, but actually includes everything you would expect from an external hard drive. With regard to the appearance of the SanDisk Extreme PRO, not much has changed in direct comparison to its predecessor, both disks look confusingly similar - although it is fair to say that the design of the SanDisk Extreme Portable was really very pretty to look at. The successor now also comes in a flat design and with rounded corners, the colors black and orange dominate again. Thanks to the existing rubber coating, it is not only comfortable to hold, but also offers optimal protection against accidental falls from a height of up to two meters. An aluminum housing built under the rubber has been newly integrated into the SanDisk Extreme PRO, which offers additional protection against knocks and bumps, and an IP55 standard now also offers protection against water and dust. But be careful: You shouldn't dive the SanDisk Extreme PRO under water. However, it easily withstands a trip in heavy rain.
Although the SanDisk Extreme PRO is a bit larger than its predecessor with dimensions of 112 x 58 x 11,5 mm, the manufacturer still has an eyelet in the upper right corner, through which the hard drive can be carried on a key ring, for example . In our opinion, however, it is a bit too big for this purpose - although with an extremely low weight of just 75 g it proves to be a pure flyweight.
Hardware
The SanDisk Extreme PRO is included a contemporary USB 3.1-Gen2 connection and does justice to its advantages in every respect: With an average 937 MByte/s write speed, the desired data practically flies onto the disk, and an impressive 987 MByte/s on average even when reading. These are really excellent values, behind which there are not only numerous conventional ones external hard drives, but also many SSD hard drives have to be hidden - the update of the SanDisk Extreme Portable was obviously really worth it. This is also reflected in terms of storage space external SSD from their best side and provides the right storage space for almost every need: In addition to a version with comparatively manageable 500 GB there are other variants as well 1 TB or 2 TB. However, if you opt for the more extensive versions, you should know that the respective purchase prices are quite salty - even if absolutely reasonable, since hardly any other portable hard disk has such all-round protection and similarly impressive read and write speeds.

The SanDisk Extreme PRO not only promises excellent protection against shocks, impacts and environmental influences, but actually offers it. It doesn't matter whether it's a hard blow, falling on the floor, carrying it in a suitcase or hand luggage or taking a trip with the digital camera in wet and cold weather: this hard drive is really extremely resistant and therefore an ideal companion. However, you should ask yourself before you buy whether you really need such protection: If you only take your hard drive with you to friends from time to time, a conventional portable hard drive is usually the best choice. However, if you are often on the go and like to have your personal data to hand, you should definitely think about the purchase.
