The manufacturer Buffalo Technology was kind enough to give us the portable MiniStation Slim with a memory of 500 GB to be made available for testing. The 2,5 inch hard disk is equipped with a buffer of 16 MB and a rotation speed of 5.400 rpm. The first impression of the hard drive is also visually very good - we received the model in a matt black aluminum body. What can it really do and is it worth buying? We'll take a closer look at them.

As already mentioned, the MiniStation Slim is packed in a simple aluminum body with a matt surface. A continuous flat plastic frame has been used on the sides. The USB 3.0 output is located on the short side together with a small, white status LED. Of course, the MiniStation Slim also lives up to its name and is very flat at 9 millimeters, and at 140 grams it is also very light. The silent hard drive is available in black, red and silver. All these aspects absolutely speak in favor of Buffalo's small hard drive.
Hardware
Inside our test device is a 500 GB hard drive Seagate built in (ST500LT012-9WS142). The quiet 2,5 inch hard drive with RPM 5.400 and 16 MB buffer did very well in our test, which is also reflected in the write/read speeds. That's how it was Write speed in our test was 106,7 MB/s, read speed was 105 MB/s also in a very neat area. These values refer to the connection via USB 3.0. The MiniStation Slim is compatible with all common operating systems, including old Windows systems up to Windows 8 and Apple OSX.

Conclusion
We have been extremely happy with the Buffalo MiniStation Slim. She delivered very decent test results for her size. The writing and reading speed clearly scored in USB 3.0 operation. We really liked the very simple and flat appearance in an aluminum body. You can certainly argue about taste, which is why the hard disk is also available in three different colors (black, red, silver). In terms of price, it is slightly above average at around 70 euros for the 500 GB model, but we are talking about around 10 euros here. Because of the good values in the benchmarks and the design, which we really like, we give a clear purchase recommendation for the MiniStation Slim from Buffalo.
