What's in the box
The Tonor Orca gaming microphone is delivered in a comparatively bulky packaging, so that one expects that a lot of additional material is also included in the scope of delivery. In fact, almost all of the free space inside the box is used for the microphone itself, which is quite bulky and massive.
Conveniently, it is already attached to the corresponding stand when delivered, so that you can get started right after unpacking without first assembling various components. In addition to the microphone, a USB cable is also included, which makes a very valuable impression thanks to its fabric coating. In addition, the cable is a 2-in version that can be plugged into both a classic USB port and a Type-C port. The permanently attached USB adapter is simply plugged in when required. The scope of delivery is rounded off by a user manual in which the most important functional properties of the microphone are explained.
Unfortunately, the said instructions are written very briefly, so that you have to find out for yourself what the buttons on the front of the microphone are used for - we would have expected a little more detail here.
Design and workmanship
The processing quality of the Tonor Orca 001 gaming microphone is absolutely impressive. As soon as you take it out of the box, you notice that the microphone and its base are really very heavy - which is mainly due to the fact that the base is made of solid metal and thus ensures an optimal stand on the Desk cares. The microphone itself also has a high-quality finish and is somewhat reminiscent of a radio presenter's microphone. The bright red microphone spider, in which the microphone is attached, provides additional visual accents - this also ensures that any vibrations from the desk are not transmitted to the microphone.
If you don't like the spider, you can separate the microphone from it relatively easily by loosening a few screws. If you wish, you can also completely free the microphone from its stand and then attach it to a special microphone holder - but this is of course not included in the scope of delivery. A word about the stand: it has a special notch through which the USB cable can be fed. Thus, the cable does not lie unattractively on the desk, but can be routed to the back relatively unnoticed - a really well thought-out solution.
The peculiarities of the Tonor Orca 001
The Tonor Orca 001 gaming microphone is perfectly designed for gaming and streaming and offers its user some practical advantages. Relatively unspectacular, since almost every gaming microphone is available, there is also the 90 degree adjustable stand, which allows the microphone to be set in the desired position. On the other hand, a touch button integrated into the top of the microphone is much cooler. If this is touched, the microphone is immediately muted. So if you notice that you have to spontaneously cough or sneeze during your live stream, you can hide these unpleasant noises from your viewers relatively quickly without first having to frantically search for a special button or setting in the menu. Another (mainly optical) highlight of the Tonor Orca 001 gaming microphone is an illuminated RGB display, which the manufacturer calls a volume indicator. However, this does not provide any information about how loud the spoken sentences are, but about the input sensitivity of the microphone.

Depending on the volume set, the display changes color, covering the entire color spectrum of the rainbow. The more the hue changes into the reddish area, the higher the input sensitivity - while there is a neutral input sensitivity in the green area and a medium input sensitivity in the bluish area. Incidentally, it also looks pretty cool in the live stream when the microphone lights up colorfully.
On the underside of the microphone, in addition to the connection for the USB cable, there is another connection option on board: This is a 3,5 mm jack plug, which you can use to connect your headphones and then listen to your voice in real time without annoying echoes - so you can evaluate the quality of your recording without waiting and make adjustments if necessary. The microphone connection is also practical for headphones with a short connection cable, since you gain a few centimeters with the microphone standing on the desk.
By the way: thanks to the USB-C connection, you can use the microphone not only on the PC, but also on the Smartphone or connect to the PlayStation – only with the XBOX from Microsoft Unfortunately, the microphone is not compatible. All other devices can be connected within a few seconds via Plug & Play.
The audio quality of the Tonor Orca 001
For a microphone in this price range, professional gamers may not expect quite as much in terms of audio quality, as there are numerous models that are significantly more expensive on the market. However, these fears are unfounded, because the Tonor Orca 001 really delivers an excellent sound - both for recording and for live streaming. The spoken sentences are reproduced crystal clear, which is primarily due to the built-in condenser. Unpleasant ambient noise can be suppressed quickly and easily by pressing the dedicated lower button on the front of the microphone - what more could you ask for? There is definitely nothing to claim here.
