If you look around for Bluetooth in-ear headphones, you will find cheaper models as well as versions for several hundred euros. But do expensive headphones really inevitably produce better sound? Today we took a close look at the relatively inexpensive SoundPEATS Bluetooth 5.1 headphones, which are available from Amazon & Co for just under 40 euros. Our test report below will tell you whether their sound and operation are convincing.

What's in the box
The SoundPEATS Bluetooth 5.1 headphones come in a small black box and are housed inside a round plastic box that doubles as a charging cradle. In addition to the headphones themselves, the scope of delivery also includes a relatively brief operating manual and a USB cable.
However, the latter is very short, so that it is a bit complicated to supply the headphones with new energy, especially on the PC. Even though the USB port is fairly high up on the front, you can't place the charging cradle on top of the case without it falling back down and then dangling in the air by its cable.
Design and workmanship
In our opinion, both the design of the headphones and the charging cradle are very successful. While the plastic shell comes in a pretty leather look, the small black in-ears themselves are a real eye-catcher. A multifunction button is installed on the top, which we will go into more detail about in a moment. This is marked by a stylish S in the color silver, which stands for the name of the manufacturer SoundPEATS.

There is nothing to criticize about the processing quality of the SoundPEATS Bluetooth 5.1 headphones. Although this is a comparatively inexpensive product, the in-ears have a high-quality finish that is in no way reminiscent of "cheap headphones", but rather gives the impression that you are holding a very valuable product in your hands. The fact that the headphones are waterproof according to IPX5, which is by no means the case with all commercially available in-ears, should also be positively emphasized here. However, this does not mean that you can take the headphones to the swimming pool, because IPX5 is protection against splash water - jogging in the rain would be possible, for example.
Furniture
Setting up the SoundPEATS Bluetooth 5.1 headphones was really easy in our test. You simply take the in-ears out of their storage case and they immediately switch to search mode. Then, if you haven't already done so, activate Bluetooth on your phone Smartphone or on another Bluetooth-enabled device. In our case, we connected the headphones to the PC, which recognized them without any problems within a few seconds.
The SoundPEATS Bluetooth 5.1 headphones in a practical test
Now it comes down to it: Can the SoundPEATS Bluetooth 5.1 headphones also convince in the practical test or do they just look nice? In fact, we were surprised how good the sound of the in-ears is, considering that they are available for just under 40 euros. We could not detect any interference, buzzing, hum or noise and the reproduced sound can really be heard.
Of course, the headphones don't quite come close to significantly more expensive models, but we were really surprised at the fair price. Even bass is reproduced relatively well, which is by no means the case with all in-ears - the built-in 6 mm bio-compound membrane driver is responsible for this. Fortunately, the in-ears (at least in our case) fit perfectly in the ear and are hardly noticeable thanks to their low weight. The headphones did not accidentally fall out once during our test.
Controlling the SoundPEATS Bluetooth 5.1 headphones is a bit unusual at first. The SoundPEATS logo on the top of the in-ears turns out to be a multifunction button that is controlled via touchscreen. It takes over several typical functions, which should make operation much easier for the user. For example, if you want to increase the volume, you briefly tap the multifunction button on the right ear.
If you want to reduce the volume, you tap on the multifunction button on the left ear. However, problems can quickly arise here, because if you want to reduce the volume by several levels, you quickly trigger another function: you can pause or continue the current song by double-clicking on the multifunction button.
On the other hand, holding the right button for 1,5 seconds jumps to the next song, while an equivalent press of the left button starts the previous song. We think it's a pretty cool feature that also works with streaming services like Spotify without any problems. Nevertheless, before you use the SoundPEATS Bluetooth 5.1 headphones outside, you should first try out all the functions to get a feel for them.

Practical: If you use the SoundPEATS Bluetooth 5.1 headphones in combination with your smartphone, you can easily accept or reject an incoming call using the multifunction button.
According to the manufacturer, when the headphones are fully charged, they offer around 8 hours of music enjoyment. We didn't quite get to this value in our test, but the actual battery life comes pretty close to this information. Incidentally, there is only a waiting time of around 2,5 hours to fully charge the in-ears.
And finally ...
For a price of just under 40 euros, the SoundPEATS Bluetooth 5.1 headphones offer a crystal-clear sound with good bass and also look quite stylish. The touchscreen operation via the built-in multifunction button is a bit fiddly at first, but you quickly get the hang of it after using it for a long time. We have a clear purchase recommendation for these cool headphones.
